The Dawning of a New Era

By Aliss Cresswell

Twenty years ago, I was running my own trade show business. I’d look for a gap in the market – an up and coming industry that had no trade show associated with it and me and my staff would set up and run trade shows from scratch. One of the trade shows I planned was in the computer-telephony industry and I named it ‘Convergence 2000’, really because it was to do with converging technologies to enable call centres and mobile working. The tagline I gave the show was ‘The Dawning of a New Era’ and it was to be held in Maastricht, The Netherlands. We’ve still got the brochure – see the photo.

For various reasons that trade show didn’t go ahead, and I always wondered why there was so much warfare over that business considering I wasn’t doing a full on ‘Christian’ event. Some time later the Lord told me to lay down my career, give up our income and sell our dream home, which we did, (and we started an outreach programme in Blacon and then revival broke out!)

Convergence

Now, twenty years on and with no thought to that show since the year 2000, I’ve been getting the word ‘Convergence’ popping into my head over the past few weeks. So many things seem to be converging together very quickly right now. Is anyone else feeling that? The Holy Spirit is breathing on past prophetic words and and beginning to ignite them all at once! Even things we’ve been through over the years and wondered what that was all about are starting to make sense now. I was pondering all that this morning as I looked out my window as dawn broke with a magnificent sunrise.

Convergence 2000 was going to be in Maastricht and guess what I just realised?: the European Union (EU) was formed in Maastricht and established through the signing of the Maastricht Treaty. Today is the day, after years of wrangling, that the United Kingdom leaves the EU. Very interesting.
I’d been thinking about all this over the past couple of days and imagine my surprise when today’s newspapers ran the headline ‘A New Dawn for Britain’ and Prime Minister Boris Johnson declared the “Dawn of a new era”, just like the tagline I’d come up with 20 years ago for our Maastricht event: ‘The Dawning of a New Era’.

Whether you think Brexit is good or bad is not the issue here. Something significant is happening in the United Kingdom and in the rest of Europe, that will affect the rest of the world, and I prophesy that we are witnessing the dawning of a new era, not just politically, but a convergence of God’s strategic plans and I for one want to be right at the heart of all that He is doing in these incredible days of revival, restoration reformation and redemption.
